What are Efex™ Decorative Appliqués?

There are many types of furniture mouldings, embellishments and appliqués and most have one thing in common; they are not flexible. Efex™ Are Bendable. This means that they must either be applied to completely flat surfaces or have the gaps filled after application. They are also prone to breaking and cracking.

Efex™ furniture appliqués are completely flexible so they simply adjust to fit any surface they're applied to.

They can also be stretched up to 2% to ensure a tight fit. No special tools are required beyond a pair of scissors or a knife and a good contact cement.
These latex appliqués have been hand made from historical architectural designs in New Zealand for over 40 years from original plaster mouldings taken from pieces in England and France. A variety of beautiful decorative mouldings are in store now.

 

 

Simple to Use?

Efex can be applied to almost any surface – wood, plaster, metal, glass, and terracotta by using Selleys Vertical contact cement, it’s simply the best one we’ve used so far! Apply to back of the appliqué and to surface you’re attaching to. Press the two surfaces together once the glue is dry to the touch, and it’s done! You can start finishing your piece once the appliqué is attached.

If you’re using a different brand make sure you check the manufacturer’s instructions, these may differ from brand to brand. Don’t use epoxy or PVA glues as they will not adhere. 

Use Efex Anywhere?

Efex can be used anywhere around the home including kitchens and bathrooms. Use on furniture, walls, doors, or mirrors. Use to create picture frames and boxes. In fact, if it needs decorating this is the product for you. They can be used outside too! For garden uses such as terracotta, store inside during extreme winter weather, or in a sheltered area.

Just Glue and Paint!

Efex can be painted, stained, or even gilded. Just apply your favorite products to get any look your heart desires. Water-based, oil, stain, crackle, you name it! From shabby chic, to elegant French – the possibilities are simply endless.

Escutcheons

Escutcheon is an old French word meaning a shield. Today it means: a flat piece of metal for protection and often ornamentation, around a keyhole, door handle, or light switch.

An escutcheon is often part of a lockset to protect the surrounding area from damage and wear from the end of the key when it misses the keyhole. OK, another way of writing this is that escutcheon is a fancy French word for keyhole cover. Of course, when your little covers are fancy and French, it’s fun to use the fancy French word for them.

We have five styles of Escutcheons, from small and demure to big and fancy. We even have one that is Art Deco. All of our covers have a lovely detail that has been preserved from the original and is handmade for your next project.
